Garry Glowacki essays Garry Glowacki: A Representative for Justice Alternatives to Prison Garry Glowacki was nice enough to come and speak about his job in the law enforcement field. The field stretches out so far that some parts you wouldnt even know existed. One of these jobs is Garry Glowackis job. He works in the alternative to prison section of the criminal justice system. Through Garrys Life and work experience he believes that this system really does work. Garry came in and told us what the alternative to justice route of law enforcement is and how it works, but he did not talk about the actual rehabilitation process for it that prison had. Alternatives to justice are part of the criminal justice system in Kingston Penitentiary. The Alternative Justice system works with all kinds of offenders that can be considered not a threat to society when they are held under supervision. As an example, if a man broke into a home and stole another mans television and got caught there are two ways of going about his punishment; the justice system could end up spending over 25,000 dollars on the persecution and jail time of the offender or the offender could be supervised and work off the damages done to the home of the owner by mowing his lawn and trimming the hedges and stuff like that. This alternative will make the prisoner realize that it is an actual person that he has stolen from and realize how hard they worked to get that VCR (or whatever they stole). Garry firmly believed that no one is a bad person; they were just lead in the wrong direction as a child. He Quoted, hurt people, hurt people, and this statement is very true. Generally speaking, offenders have been offended in their lives and that has built up an aggression that they can not deal with. Garry explained that forgiveness is the key.
